These are black clay (barro negro) artisanal mezcal copitas handmade in Oaxaca, Mexico. You'll be able to appreciate your most precious mezcal with a drinking vessel that has an exciting glow made from earth native to the region.

No pieces are the exact same and they stand roughly 1.5" tall and are 2.6" wide.

Why Choose A Black Clay Mezcal Copita?

The famous black clay is a local and traditional pottery technique in the Oaxacan town of San Bartolo Coyotepec which is about 40 minutes outside of Oaxaca. This type of technique called "barro negro" is passed down through many generations and families in this town.

The special grey clay used for these mezcal copitas is carefully sourced (lead-free) in the mountainside and brought to the village. After the same is made, it is then cooked in an earthen pit, much like mezcal. It is then finished in a few different ways.

These black clay mezcal copitas are finished with the "polishing" technique which ensures that there is no leakage in the mezcal copita.

The mezcal copita features an inscription of the agave with the artisans signature at the bottom for authenticity.

About The Black Clay Mezcal Copita Artisan

Rigoberto Mateos Campechano learned his trade from the great Rigoberto Mateos Ortega and uncles to create the great elaborations of black sgraffito clay. The craftmanship that he has inherited from his family and his influence on the art allow him to evoke a style of barro negro unique to his name.

Being a mezcal fan himself, he is very proud to bring these black clay mezcal copitas to you. On behalf of him and his family, we would like to thank you.
