What’s The Story Behind 1800 Silver Tequila?
In 1758, Jose Antonio Cuervo became the first officially licensed tequila manufacturer after King Ferdinand VI of Spain gave him a plot of land. He cultivated the agave plant, after that deciding not to bring it back with him to Europe.
However, tequila production was burned shortly after, until 1795, when King Carlos IV lifted the ban. The Cuervo family became the very first to sell tequila in the world. The family has remained faithful to the business ever since and are some of the wealthiest people in Mexico. Jose Fransisco Beckmann, the 11th generation of Cuervo’s family to run the tequila business, is the fourth wealthiest person in the country.
The name “1800 tequila” comes from the year 1800, when tequila was first successfully aged in wood barrels made from oak casks. Besides, it was prepared with strict adherence to the original processes and recipe. The bottle’s triangular shape symbolizes the Mayan pyramids found in Mexico. 1800 tequila pays more tribute to tradition and even has a logo that features a Mayan pyramid at the top. The 1800 tequila was launched in 1795 as a premium sipping tequila and was initially known as Cuervo 1800 Tequila. In 2004, the Reposado, Silver, and Anejo labels were introduced. Later in 2006, 1800 introduced The Ultimate Margarita. This is the only pre-mix, 19.9 proof, ready-to-serve margarita mix made with 100% blue agave tequila (1800 silver).
1800 tequila is double distilled and blended with a unique white tequila for added complexity and character. The process produces a premium tequila with a more exciting flavor and smoother than most on the market.
Step 1: Harvesting
1800 tequila is an extract of 100% blue agave. The agave ripens after eight to ten years when it is ready for harvest. The first step is to harvest the blue agave from the field and cut the leaves. The plant’s spina is then chopped off, leaving the leaves in the field.
Step 2: Cooking
Once harvested from agave fields and the root balls chopped into quarter pieces, they are placed into silver ovens and baked for three days. The three days of baking helps to bring out the natural sugars, which are primarily responsible for their taste.
Step 3: Milling
Once it is baked, the sweet fruit is transferred to a round, above-ground pit. It is then broken down into a mash by a donkey-drawn traditional wheel.
Step 4: Fermentation
The mashed spina is now fermented for 7 to 10 days.
Step 5: Distillation
The fermented agave is loaded into copper stills, where it is heated to a specific temperature. The hot juice is then closed and carefully monitored for two days while a flavored smooth, very clear spirit drips into a basin.

1800 Blanco Silver Tequila
